“Me voy pa’ Nueva York” is dedicated to all Puerto Rican migrants that traveled to
New York searching for the American dream. Puerto Ricans were the first
Hispanics to arrive in large numbers in cities in the eastern United States of
America, especially New York City. This began in the 1940s and became known as
“The Great Migration.” From 1970 to approximately 1990, they represented 80% of
the city’s Hispanic community. This is part of our history.
