Of all of nature’s gifts of the tropics, one of her favorites is the papaya tree, portrayed in the work Fruit of the Angels. Historically, the papaya fruit was called Fruit of the Angels due to its sweetness and butter-like consistency. Marilia has eaten papayas since she was a child for their sweet flavor and healthy properties as a snack, in salads or as dessert. She continues to enjoy eating papayas but also admires the unique-shaped tree that produces them and the bright and cheerful colors of the fruit’s ripening process that adorn the tropical landscape.
This creative mosaic illustrates the papaya tree in all its splendor, from the green fruits to the ripe beautiful orange ones, some cut open to observe the beautiful contrast of the color of its seeds within the fruit. The detail of the artistic image presented aims to enhance the viewer’s perception of the hidden treasure of the fruit of the angels found in Puerto Rico.
