Flor Y Vuelo (Flower and Flight)
2025

stained glass, glass beads, metal beads

At the center of the mosaic blooms a brilliant red hibiscus, its wide petals created from hand-cut pieces of orange and crimson glass, each shard catching light at a different angle. Subtle gradients of orange, red, and deep scarlet give the petals depth and movement, as if swaying in a warm Caribbean breeze. The stamen, composed of golden-yellow and amber glass beads, radiates outward with delicate precision.
Perched gracefully beside the flower is the Puerto Rican Green Parrot – the endangered Iguaca. Its feathers Shimmer in Layers of emerald and jade glass, highlighted with touches of blue on its shoulder. The parrot’s keen eye was encircled with a ring of white, giving it a soulful expression. Its curved beak, crafted from smoky ivory tones, contrasts beautifully with the bird’s vivid plumage.
The background is a dynamic blend of tropical blues, suggesting a bright sky over El Yunque. Translucent glass and glass beads create a play of light that shifts with the viewer’s position, echoing in the life and motion of Puerto Rico’s vibrant ecosystem.
