My work is about a tropical fruit called ‘Caimito morado’ or Star Apple. It’s purple on the outside, sweet and refreshing on the inside, and brings me memories of my childhood from this really tall tree in my parents’ house. Every spring (March-April we ate them under the shade of this awesome, beautiful tree and shared the caimito with the family, neighbors, and friends. The caimito morado should be eaten with a spoon because of the resin or sab that will stick to the lips, but not to your mouth. I use different types of materials and a variety of hues and values of glass to create this fruit, so the viewer can visualize the fruit from the outside and the inside. There are different hues on this tropical fruit, like the leaves, which are green on the top and light brown on the other side. These colorful characteristics are very distinct in our environment, and I want to share as an artist this moment of beauty in nature.
