A lot of my work is inspired by the appreciation of the natural environment, including animals. The story of the brown pelican is a success story of community action and government regulation. Due to industrial pollutants and the use of pesticides like DDT, the brown pelican was nearly extinct in 1970 and put on the endangered species list. In 1972 the government banned the use of DDT, and brown pelicans made an amazing comeback. In 2009 they were taken off of the endangered species list and now thrive.
