The word “tourbillon” means vortex or whirlpool, or more extremely, maelstrom. I think that we can all agree that the last several years have seen an upending and disorienting series of events in our world. Of course, ours is not the only era to have experienced tumult and frenzy, however, we are more immediately affected by what we see and hear and do every day rather than by historical events. Still, we can watch the flurry around us and choose to remain unaffected.
This piece is a reflection of the maelstrom in our world, which surrounds a calm heart. As I made it, I noticed how cutting and gluing the very small pieces filled my heart and mind with peace and quiet – pushing aside the crazy and replacing it with harmony and tranquility.
