This piece was inspired by my hometown and ancestry, particularly my great-great grandmother, Charlotte Simone. She was of the Ishak/Atakapa people of Louisiana gulf coast, who designated themselves as “Sunrise People” and “Sunset People”. It represents the vibrancy of a sunset in New Orleans.
