Aleph is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. It has no sound. Mystics say this is the sound you make when you open your mouth to speak, before you say anything. Kabbalists claim it is the precursor to creation. The upper part of the Aleph (the Hebrew letter yod) represents the divine. The lower part of the Aleph (another yod) represents the earthly realm. The center section (the Hebrew letter vav) represents the Torah that bridges heaven and earth.
