This art panel was inspired by and created with the ancient Indian technique of Rangoli. The design is made ‘free-hand’, by meticulously depositing glass powders on a flat base, and manipulating them with various simple household tools. This intentionally thoughtful and manual process serves a dual-purpose as a meditative exercise.
The primarily Azure blue colorway is enhanced with touches of Red, Yellow and Green, with Turquoise blue creating highlights.
Rangoli designs are traditionally made using colored sand, or flowers and leaves. They are created at the entrance of a home.
The 8 directional Mandala design is used to invoke the blessings of God on religious festivals. Other celebratory events, like births and weddings, feature floral or geometric designs. Birds, especially the Peacock, are frequently featured.
