This is an image of a Māori warrior. I’ve always been energized by the unique way they prepared for battle with their haka dance. The facial movements are a big part of it and especially sticking out their tongues to intimidate their enemies. I tried to capture that intimidation by bringing the observer right up to them – like the warrior is really getting in your face.
